    Description

Number 41 on a Mets uniform will always evoke memories of an Amazin' team and a Terrific pitcher. The team ended seven years of futility in 1969, first by winning the National League pennant and then by stunning the Orioles in the World Series. The right-handed pitcher, Tom Seaver, compiled a 25-7 record that miracle season and won the first of three Cy Young Awards as a Met. A tragic trade sent Seaver to the Reds in 1977, but by then he had secured a place in Met lore by racking up 189 victories. When he called it quits following the 1986 season, the career ledger stood at 311-205. Five years later he was in the Hall of Fame.
