These Mock security cameras look like the real thing and can be an effective deterrent around your home.
At 4 1/2 inches wide and 3 inches tall these cameras are the same size as the real security cameras the professionals use. The flashing LED light adds even more realism. You cant tell the difference between these and the real thing. They operate on 2 AA batteries and eventhough that little red light attracts attention you don't need the batteries for these to look real if they are mounted where you can see them.
Let me tell something the security professionals don't share; the most effective use of security cameras is their deterrence value. Now it's true some evil doers are not deterred by security cameras and those kind you can't stop or deter in any way. Those kind know that even if they are on camera there is not much chance you are going to catch them except on video.
Security professionals know that video recording is of little value in apprehending criminals unless: A. You recognize the suspect on camera. (not likely) or B. The camera's are recording a workplace or other environment where you can use the footage to ID a person through a different source.
For the homeowner the video camera is only effective if it is monitored live and you have eyes on the suspect while the crime is in progress. To simply use the camera to record the theft of your car will most likely only serve as a permanent record of your car being taken that you can use to watch over and over again to frustrate yourself and raise your blood pressure. You will at least have some useless video to review AFTER you discover your car missing the same way you would have discovered it missing without the cameras. (Hint: The empty driveway)
My point is that a REAL video camera like this will cost you about 0 and the recording equipment can cost you thousands. Not a lot of bang for your buck as a deterrent.
These mock cameras give you the same look and deterrence value as the real ones but, for less than Bucks!
When my wife is home alone with just her friends Smith and Wesson, and there is a knock at the door she tells the person to look up. (We have one of these mock cameras right above the door) When they look up they think they are on camera! Our real security cameras focus on the perimeter but, they don't know that. We have had some unwanted visitors high tail it out once they spot the camera.
Like I said these won't deter everyone but for me, I like to make 'em think twice.
They are a great for keeping pesky neighbors off your property. They'll think they are on camera and they KNOW you'd recognize them!
