    Description

Here is an album of international postage stamps all from the 1950's. They are in a stamp album entitled "International Geophysical Research". All are related in some way to the I.G.Y, (International Geophysical Year), which ran actually for about 1 1/2 years, from July 1, 1957 to December 31, 1958. It was a time when international cooperation in Geophysical research was encouraged and pursued by many nations. The stamps were issued for a limited period of time in commemoration of that cooperation and that research. The album has a total of 134 stamps. Some of those are new stamps and some are on envelopes,(about 20 envelopes with stamps), and I suppose that all of the ones on envelopes are 1st day covers (although sometimes it is a little hard to tell with the foreign wording). The dates on the stamps start in 1955 with an Italian stamp commemorating the "Astronomical Congress at Rome", and go to 1958, when the IGY ended. There are stamps from Italy, The Falkland Islands, Canada, Colombia, Argentina, Canada, Australia, The USA, Yugoslavia, Czechoslavakia, The German Democratic Republic, Poland, Haiti, Indonesia, Japan, Norway,  Romania, & Russia. The envelopes (1st day covers) are from Canada, Colombia, Australia, USA, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Germany, Indonesia, Australian Antarctic Territory, Norway, Romania and Russia. All the stamps have been protected in an album with plastic sleeves. The album itself then slips into a durable Slip cover.
